Port Pipavav launching 2 Jindal Waterways vessels for coastal shipping

m.v. Jindal Meenakshi marks commencement of new service

Two new vessels—m.v.Jindal Meenakshi and m.v. Jindal Kamakshi—are being launched by Jindal Waterways at Port Pipavav.

Capt. Ashok Kumar Shrivastava, Business Head, Jindal Waterways Ltd, Mr Ashley Dinning, Chief Commercial Officer of Port Pipavav, and others participated in the puja and inauguration of m.v. Jindal Meenakshi at Port Pipavav on August 25. m.v. Jindal Kamakshi will be inaugurated in a similar manner at the Port on September 1.

After the ceremony, Mr Dinning handed over silver plaques to Capt. Shrivastava and the Master of the vessel to commemorate the event.

Both the vessels will be utilised for coastal shipping to begin with, and will be berthing at Port Pipavav frequently. "We are very happy to partner with Jindal Waterways to promote coastal shipping in India. It has enormous growth potential and we at Port Pipavav are making a strong effort to help it grow," said Mr Dinning.

The Union government is committed to promoting coastal shipping because of the advantages it brings to the country’s infrastructure growth. Both Port Pipavav and Jindal Waterways are keen to participate and contribute to this growth. The inauguration of the two vessels marks the beginning of larger plans for Jindal Waterways in this sector. Port Pipavav has also signed up with other shipping lines for this purpose.

Commenting on the occasion of the launch of the new service of m.v. Jindal Meenakshi from Pipavav, Mr Ram S. Ramasundar, Chief Executive Officer of Jindal Waterways Ltd, said, "O. P. Jindal Group has a deep commitment to developing coastal shipping services in India as a powerful backbone to the Indian logistics sector. Within a short span of one year, Jindal Waterways has already emerged as a strong player in coastal shipping, with a fleet of 8 vessels. It started its coastal service operations from Pipavav Port and is happy now to commence the maiden voyage of its new ship, Jindal Meenakshi, from the Port. On this auspicious occasion, we would like to sincerely thank the Pipavav Port management who have been our partners in progress and we intend strengthening this relationship further in the years to come."
